My name is Danica and I was born in The Netherlands in the year of ‘’Good Vibrations’’ of Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. That would be 1991 for some that don’t know how epic this song is!
I grew up in a little village with 20.000 people that had more than 12 churches. I was raised Protestant Christian but along my own journey I developed a bigger understanding, love and openness for all beliefs in the world from a spiritual point of view. While growing into adulthood and bigger pants, I moved to a bigger village and lesser city called Dordrecht.

Dordrecht is the oldest city of The Netherlands and also a island which you can only get to by bridge or boat!
Here I lived with so much joy for 7 years. In between those years I graduated from the University of Applied Sciences in Rotterdam with a degree in Trade management focused on Asia. With an Indonesian background (papa is from Indonesia) I chose this study because quite frankly it offered a year in an Asian country.
Then, I studied a year in Indonesia which was the best year of my life so far. I found my spirit animal ‘’Milo’’ in the rice fields and I met my Australian missing half in a bar in Bali. But more importantly, I got to know myself and started to make bold decisions for the better.

Say Hi to Milo! Milo is a Balinese dog, but we call him our little Dutch Cow!
So, after finishing my thesis in 2018 and a two-year long-distance relationship, I gave away all my stuff, moved out of my apartment and got on a plane to the Gold Coast in Australia.
With life settled down now a bit, I thought it was time to bring out a long-time passion of mine which is starting a blog.
The South porter Blog is to share my personal memories, thoughts, and experiences through photos and to help inspire and motivate people. Let’s all laugh a little harder, cry a little less and smile a bit more. The world would be such a better place if we help each other and obviously exchange delicious recipes ;).
Please feel free to email me anytime at thesouthporter@gmail.com, or find me on Instagram. Thanks heaps for reading my blog!
